What is In2Care Mosquito Treatment in Austin, TX?

The warm Texas weather comes with plenty of perks, but if you spend time outdoors, it also comes with a few tradeoffs. One example: a longer mosquito season compared to other states.

Mosquitoes love warm, wet weather, and the Lone Star State provides the perfect conditions for them to thrive. But living with a mosquito-filled year doesn’t have to be your final answer. The In2Care mosquito treatment is changing the way Austin, TX homeowners combat mosquitoes ― and win.

What is In2Care Mosquito Treatment?

In2Care is a new tool used to control mosquitoes and, in turn, reduce the spread of diseases like Yellow Fever, Dengue, Zika, and Chikungunya. It’s a device that attracts, traps, and kills female Aedes mosquitoes, as well as target mosquito larvae in breeding areas surrounding the trap.

The In2Care mosquito treatment is comprised of several parts:

  • A 5-liter water reservoir (looks like a small planter)
  • A lid with a click-on mechanism and 360-degree gap for mosquitoes to enter
  • Floating device with attached gauze strip
  • Green indicator cap for servicing reminder
  • Optional anchoring devices
  • Refill sachets infused with bioactives and attractants

Traditionally, treating large outdoor areas for mosquitoes took the form of fogging. However, in today’s era of sustainability and eco-friendliness, better solutions are needed to protect people, property, and the environment. The In2Care trap is the first of its kind, using a bioactive control agent to target egg-laying mosquitoes in a way that doesn’t pose a risk for non-target organisms (e.g., fish, mammals, etc.).

It’s recommended that In2Care devices be placed in a density of 10 traps per acre for adequate coverage. However, your pest control specialist will make the right recommendations based on your yard and other unique specifics.

How In2Care Mosquito Treatment Works

The trap contains a refillable sachet that is usually maintained by your pest control company. The odor of the sachet contents lure egg-laying mosquitoes to the trap. Once the mosquitoes are inside, they come into contact with gauze treated with a fungus and larvicide.

Because mosquitoes lay their eggs over multiple sites, they transport the larvicide to each of these areas around the trap and contaminate them. This allows In2Care to kill larvae in even the most obscured breeding sites.

What’s more, the fungus in the trap also infects the mosquitoes and kills them within days of becoming contaminated. The result is a mosquito-free home or business, along with a reduction in the spread of disease.

In a field test, the In2Care mosquito treatment was found to prevent more than 80% of larvae from surrounding breeding sites from becoming adult mosquitoes.

Little, blood-feeding insects called bed bugs invade homes and other places humans sleep. They resemble apple seeds in size, are oval, and are reddish-brown. Nighttime blood feeding by bed bugs results in painful, fiery welts on the skin. They are skilled hitchhikers, quickly spreading via clothing, furniture, or baggage, and can be challenging to get rid of without the proper care.

Yes, bird feeders can attract rodents. The seeds that fall from bird feeders can provide a food source for rodents such as mice, rats, and squirrels. These rodents can then attract predators such as snakes and birds of prey, creating additional problems. It's essential to clean up any spilled seeds or debris regularly to minimize the risk of attracting rodents. Additionally, storing bird seed in sealed containers is a good idea to prevent rodents from accessing it.
